A 29 km (18 mile) bank of shingle that runs from West Bay to the Isle of Portland. It is backed by the tidal lagoon of Fleet and is part of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site. The shingle shelves steeply towards the east where swimming is discouraged.
