A secluded sandy beach backed by cliffs situated on the outskirts of Whitby. Saltwick is a good beach for fossil hunting and at low tide the remains of two shipwrecks, the SS Rohilla and the Admiral Von Tromp, can be seen. Whitby holiday park is located at the top of the cliffs behind the beach. The nearest public car park is about a mile to the northwest at Whitby Abbey, with access via the Cleveland Way coastal path. There are steps leading down to the beach from the path.
